maps I

For over 10 years, I have been designing informative graphics. Within design companies, in news rooms and as an independent designer. Currently, I am available for freelance work.

To me, infographics, maps and dataviz are among the most beautiful applications of design. It is my goal to help organisations visualize important information in a clear, correct, and aesthetically pleasing way. Depending on the project, I use illustration, animation, graphic design, code or GIS to create informative graphics. See my work for examples.

At Willem de Kooning Academy, I obtained my Bachelor's degree in illustration (BDes). After graduating, I started working as an information designer, and gained experience in design studios as well as news rooms. Among other places, I've worked as an information designer at KRO-NCRV (Dutch broadcaster) and De Correspondent. After working hours, I studied ‘Geographical Information Science’ at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (parttime master). In 2021, after many years of working within journalism, I felt it was time for a new challenge: Leon de Korte information graphics was born :). Since then, I have been designing graphics for many different clients, both large and small (see selection below).
